The Effects of Selective Breeding for High or Low Clean Fleece
نویسنده
چکیده
Blood was sampled from sheep of 3 flocks, selectively bred for either high (Fl+) or low (Fl-) clean fleece weight or randomly bred (R). Under maintenance (M) and, subsequently, sub-maintenance (0.8xM) or supra-maintenance (1.6xM) feeding regimes, Fl+ sheep had significantly lower concentrations of cystine in plasma than R sheep, which in turn had significantly lower concentrations of cystine than Flsheep, indicating a probable negative genetic relationship between clean wool production and plasma cystine concentration. The average concentration of glutathione in the red blood cells of GSHH sheep (i.e. sheep with higher concentrations of reduced GSH in their red blood cells, due to the action of a single dominant gene) was significantly greater in Flsheep than in Fl+ sheep, with R sheep having the lowest concentration. Within flocks, there was no significant correlation between cystine in plasma and glutathione in the erythrocytes. The concentrations of both metabolites were greater in blood sampled from the sheep on 1.6xM than in those on 0.8xM (P < O.Ol), but there was an interaction (P < 0.05) between flock and ration for GSH.

Inbreeding and Its Effects on Body Weight,Kleiber Ratio, Body Measurements, Greasy Fleece Weight and Reproductive Traits of Makooei Sheep Breed
A pedigree file consisting of 5860 individuals, 167 sires and 1582 dams collected at Makooei sheep breeding station (MSBS) during a period of 24 years (1990 to 2013) was used to calculate the inbreeding coefficients to reveal any probable effects of inbreeding (F) on the studied traits. The studied traits were classified to the five main groups including body weight, Kleiber ratio, body measure...
متن کاملEstimates of genetic and environmental (co)variances for live weight and fleece traits in yearling South African Mutton Merino sheep
Yearling live weight and fleece trait data were obtained from between 2214 and 2270 yearling SA Mutton Merino progeny of the Elsenburg flock during a 20-year period from 1983 to 2002. Information of (co)variances for these traits in SA Mutton Merinos is exceedingly scarce in the literature. Estimates of (co)variance components and ratios were thus obtained from these data, using an Animal Model...
متن کاملPolymorphism of the Growth Hormone Gene and Its Effect on Production and Reproduction Traits in Goat
Growth hormone (GH) has an effect on a broad variety of physiological parameters such as lactation, reproduction, growth and metabolism. Thus, the aim of this study was to detect GH gene polymorphism and its association with breeding values of production and reproduction traits in Raini Cashmere goat. Breeding values were estimated using records on 26731 Raini Cashmere goats. To study GH gene p...

Blocks containing urea were provided to groups of penned sheep fed ad libitum on roughage of either 2.3 % or 5.1 % crude protein content and the results were compared with unsupplemented groups. One block contained 7.1% urea with finely ground sorghum, distillers solubles, common salt and rock phosphate. The other block contained 30.070 urea with common salt, rock phosphate, molasses and pollar...

An experiment was designed to evaluate the effects of five sire breeds (Dorset, Finnsheep, Romanov, Texel, and Montadale), two dam breeds (Composite III [CIII] and northwestern whiteface [WF]), and three shearing seasons (December, February, and April, corresponding to August, October, and December breeding seasons) and their interactions on wool and other characteristics of F1 ewes. Fleeces we...
